If you’re a pot fan but you’ve never seen a pot film, you’ve missed out. I want Mutant Yelling Cyclops Wolverine shirt. The acting in films like “Pineapple Express”, Ice Cube’s “Friday” films, Cheech and Chong’s films, Silent Bob films, and others (Dave Chapelle) where pot is the main character, are amusing because they “get it right”. I often think they’re actually toking up during filming, and they probably are. I’m not going to say there isn’t any talent there, but Tenacious D is sort of a “Mock Rock” if you get my drift. It’s as much comedy as music and as much pure ham as it is Rock. The tunes can be cool, and there is an attempt to write songs here. “Rize of the Fenix” is actually a good song, and there are others. But the whole thing is sort of shtick and melodrama in a comedic setup sense. It’s like you almost expect to hear them go into “Earache my Eye”, the Cheech and Chong tour de force from “Up in Smoke”. But, it’s still better and more energetic than “Spinal Tap”.
