Why do we thank bus drivers in Ireland Just a small town girl living in a Disney world shirt because we’re Irish! In general people in Ireland have very good manners. We like to thank bus drivers, taxi drivers, shop assistants, waiters and anyone else that is doing their job – just like the rest of us! As one other person pointed out our mothers breed it into us – and now I’m a mother I’m doing the same! I love to hear someone thanking a bus driver for a very personal reason – most of my family have worked for CIE (that’s Coras Iompair Eireann – the national public transport provider!) at one time or another! My father started as a bus conductor (back in the day there was a driver and a person who walked

He was absolutely brilliant and all of the people on his route(s) loved him. He was cheerful and polite and went out of his way to help people with prams or wheelchairs. He’d often wait for someone to arrive if he saw them running up the road (SOME drivers drive off quicker if they see you running!!!). He’d have his radio or CD player on the bus and play music for the passengers through the sound system – probably a lot of Bagatelle, Meatloaf and Paul Brady – lol.
